Hawaii's Public Schools have adopted the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) to lay the foundation of what should be taught in grades K-12. The CCSS define what knowledge and skills are required to be college and career ready upon graduation from high school. Importantly, the standards focus on the acquisition of rigorous content via application and opportunities for critical thinking and problem-solving.
Implementation of the CCSS began in 2012-2013 for grades K-2 and 11-12. In 2013-14, full implementation in high school includes all grades 9-12. More information can be found on the Hawaii Department of Education's website under the Common Core State Standards tab.
