Welcome to Kohala High School…Home of the Cowboys!
Kohala High School is privileged to serve the North Kohala community on the island of Hawaii. Our community, located on the northern tip of the Big Island, is considered to be rural with a population of approximately 6,000 residents. Established in 1936 as a K-12 school, the campus hosts much history and is situated on one the most well maintained campuses in the state. E Ala e Na Paniolo!—Rise to the Challenge, Cowboys!
Our school motto signifies our deep commitment to provide an engaging, rigorous program for our
students. The school supports an academic core program and a range of opportunities including Advanced Placement (AP) classes, Career and Technical Education (CTE), and other electives through both in class and online instruction. Presently, students have access to online classes through the
Hawaii Virtual Learning Network, Myron B. Thompson Academy, and Provost e-courses.
Kohala hosts an extracurricular program that includes athletics, clubs, and activities that support student growth beyond the classroom. The small size of the school provides the advantage of more opportunities to participate for all of our students. Our school is entrenched within community life. Many activities originate at the school or result from school/community partnerships. Kohala High School is committed to building partnerships with students, families, and the community to develop academic and personal growth in a safe, supportive environment. Our firm belief is that every student can learn and our commitment is to focus on relationships as we engage students in a rigorous and relevant academic program.
